Waihi Railway Station 1900's

Waihi Railway Station early 1900's, not long after the line originally opened.

TRAXX Accommodation is conveniently located at the Goldfields Railway in Waihi, New Zealand.

Shunters Cottage is on the doorstep of the Hauraki Rail Trail - running directly past the front door. The Waihi to Paeroa section of the Rail trail is considered to be one the most picturesque stretches of cycleways within New Zealand as it meanders through the stunning Karangahake Gorge.

Leaving Waihi, the trail follows alongside the Ohinemuri River, passing the historic gold-mining remnants in Waikino before reaching and traveling through the old 1100m train tunnel, significant for extending the East Coast Main Trunk Line from Hamilton in 1904. From there, it is approximately 8km of easy riding onto Paeroa. If cycling the 11km to Waikino for lunch, it is possible to bring bikes back on the train to Waihi. The train runs several times daily, making it a perfect part of your journey.

Shunters Cottage is centrally located within Waihi itself, with the town centre an easy 5mins bike or 10mins walk.
